RTRFM’s annual festival Distant Murmurs is taking over Rosemount this Saturday – featuring an incredibly diverse lineup of 20 acts, across 3 stages. We caught up with blues behemoths Old Blood ahead of the show to delve into what’s behind Perth and Freo’s blues resurgence, their fave up and coming local acts and which member of the band has the best metabolism.
Rosie: Why do you think blues is making a resurgence in the scene here in Perth and Freo?
Old Blood: Perth has always had an amazingly diverse music scene quietly happening! At the moment there seems to be a range acts performing different genres and absolutely killing it, people want some variety! Blues has definitely been caught up in that wave recently.
Rosie: Which blues artist that’s past on into the big band in the sky would you most love to play with and why?
Old Blood: Oof that’s a tough one. My bet would be that they’d all be in the same jam room together so if we can be hip with B.B. we’ll get the invite to join everyone else too.
Rosie: What are Old Blood up to in the rehearsal / recording studio?
Old Blood: Sometimes we rehearse and record, most the time we talk a whole lotta shit then we have to take a break because talking shit is exhausting and then the rest of the time we’ll plan the tour. Magically we have a bunch of new tunes and are on our way to bringing that next release out which is very exciting!
Rosie: Who in the band is the skinniest that eats the most food?
Old Blood: Probably Callum Kramer but he’s in a different band. Good question, thanks for asking! Body image is key to good music apparently.
Rosie: Who are the first 3 new acts in Perth that spring to mind from the Perth and Freo scene on this amazing RTRFM line up that blow you mind?
The Beer Garden:
7:30 – THE BOOST HERO MAN
8:00 – EM BURROWS & THE BEARDED RAINBOW
9:00 – MUNG DAHL
WATCH THEM ALL!
