Earlier this year, Eden Mullholand unsurprisingly announced a recording deal with US label, AntiFragile Music for the world excluding Australia and New Zealand (AntiFragile is the brainchild of Tom Sarig, best known as manager for Lou Reed, Against Me and Cake). Now again resurgent among the sound waves, Eden releases a brand new track endeavouring to steal your heart and your emotions once again.

His new single “Wild Animal” follows the undeniable beauty delivered in “Forwarding Backwarding” which was a true culmination of Eden’s artistic talents; first written in 15 minutes as a part of a collaborative dance theatre work called Amanimal, performed live onstage with alongside world class dancers then re-imagined and recorded years later in an LA studio with producer Neil Baldock (Crowded House, Sarah Blasko).

Eden explains;”I wrote Wild Animal in a development workshop for a contemporary dance show called Rushes in Wellington, 2015. It was in response to a powerful video performance by a close friend of mine who was recovering from a major illness and could only dance sitting down, using just her arms and upper body. It was deeply moving. Like a wounded wild animal, her captivity making her even more deadly than usual. To me the song is a big ‘middle finger’ to the rough shit that happened to her, and us all. She has since made a full recovery.”

“I recorded “Wild Animal” with a live band in LA, again with my long time engineer collaborator Neil Baldock, in 2016. Then developed it further at home. Drums were byNick Gaffaney (Cairo Knife Fight), Bass Geoff Maddock (Goldenhorse) and brass Phredley Brown, and further Mastered at Studios 301 by Andrew Edgeson.”

Eden is a prolific songwriter, producer, composer, video director, graphic artist and contemporary dancer who has maintained a unique style throughout his career, always managing to challenge his audience in everything he does. After years of producing weird and wonderful art while still attempting to conform to the norms of the industry, in 2017 Eden officially threw out the rule book and made a conscious decision to create and release art however the hell he wanted. This mentality sparked one of the most ambitious and artistic statements in recent memory – FUSILLADE.

The FUSILLADE project saw Eden unearth 28 previously unreleased songs and make videos for each and every one of them. With the support of who described Eden as “a genre-binding, part indie-rock, part electro-pop name whose sound is reminiscent of a bizarre Arcade Fire x Talking Heads x Beck cross-over” he released 7 songs/videos per week for the entire month of July 2017.

After making his mark with Fusillade in July, the latter part of 2017 saw Eden in high demand composing music for dance performances in Australia and New Zealand predominantly working with Co3 in Perth. Eden is currently working on a dance focused performance called Rushes which is set to showcase at The New Zealand Festival between Feb 23 and March 5. Rushes has been described as an inter-arts experience like no other where live music gig meets art gallery meets theatre, dance and film.

Where most people have a life which includes creative pursuits, Eden has creative pursuits and sometimes finds time for life around them. Listen to “Wild Animal” to truly reimagine life itself.

Eden just announced a NZ & Australian tour in light of the new track.
