Meet the ever-so-sweet and charismatic Jess! A bubbly presence in the venue and, like all the good people on the Rosie team, she a music-loving, shiraz-and-cranberry drinking force to be reckoned with. Always down for a chat, we nabbed an interview with her for our July Rosie Spotlight.

Hey Jess! Thanks for being keen to be in our Rosie Spotlight this month. Starting off easy – please tell us what’s the best thing about being part of the Rosie crew?

Where to start?! I knew as soon as I spoke to Quinny [Assistant Venue Manager] that I was gonna love this job and I do! The crew are so amazing at their jobs but most importantly I love how everyone is always looking out for each other, no one gets left in the dust, we really are one big family 😉

If I’m being honest everyday at the Rosie is a new favourite memory, but if I had to pick definitely the staff BOAT party!!!!!! The commitment everyone put towards it was so appreciated, it was just a really cool deserving thing for everyone here. Also vinnie on stage at R-Rated [Rammstein Tribute Gig]….

Ok, what about food and bevvies – anything everyone is totally sleeping on?

Call me crazy but I’m a huge advocate for Shiraz and cranberry juice! I like to think it’s a healthy drink that gets you feeling vibeyyyyy. Our chefs are so amazing I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite but I’m gonna pick a favourite and say the brisket pizza is a party in your mouth ;))))))

To work here, you’ve got to love music – so let us know, what’s currently on repeat in your headphones, and what upcoming gigs are you counting down to?

Ooooo I’ve been obsessed with the Lost Highway soundtrack for a good while now it’s just mwah mwah perfection !!!! Also Pantera, Massive Attack, Kelela and Pale Saints!

Ok – lets talk all-time favourites – what is the greatest live show you’ve ever witnessed? The one that still lives rent-free in your head.

Infinity Song who are actually playing at the Rosie in September which is so awesome, honestly I don’t really listen to their music religiously but holy moly they sound like angels live, highly recommend to get tickets for them they are so super cool :3

Tell us about yourself – what’s a fun fact about you that would surprise the people you work with?

I actually featured in a short film not too long ago, not very exciting but definitely a cool experience getting to spend time with very smart exciting people !! I also love doing yoga and acrobatics in my spare time !!!

When you’re not at Rosemount, what are you spending way too much time/money/energy on?

Honestly Rosemount is my go to spot either way, I just love the vibes all the time. So, most of my time/money/energy is spent there – but no complaints at all. I’m a big opp shopper also, my perfect day would be wake up, yoga, opp shop, pub hehe

Rosie Spotlight: A Chat to Alex F

The newest addition to the Rosie crew might already be a familiar face. You may have spotted Alex behind the decks on a Saturday, or featured in one of our food and beverage shoots over the last few months. Eyeliner always on fleek, and a talent for splitting the G on a Guinness every time, she’s quickly become part of the Rosie family. Get to know Alex a little better!

Welcome newbie – you’re how many weeks into working here now? Tell us – what’s the best thing about being part of the Rosie crew?

Thank you, I am 4 blissful weeks into working here now! The best part? I truly love everything about being here but the highlight is 100% the people I work with. I got accepted into the family my first shift, everyone is such a beautiful human inside and out. Would trust with my darkest secrets, god forbid anybody gets stuck with me on a break!!

The Streets, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, Fontaines D.C. Really excited to work Glastonbevvy this weekend, as you can tell I love UK music so it’s going to be a really fun one for me.

Ok – lets talk all-time favourites – what is the greatest live show you’ve ever witnessed? The one that still lives rent-free in your head.

Seeing Peter Hook perform Love Will Tear Us Apart at Dekmantel in 2024 was a pretty unforgettable memory. Also seeing Arctic Monkeys in 2019, they have been my favourite band since 2013 so that show meant a lot to me.

Tell us about yourself – what’s a fun fact about you that would surprise the people you work with?

I’m a lifelong Belieber…

When you’re not at Rosemount, what are you spending way too much time/money/energy on?

Eating pastries, going to the gym, reading, chilling with my cat.

Rosie Spotlight: A Chat to Alex

He’s back! If you’ve been around Rosie since 2021, you might recognise this smiley face. Alex last worked behind the bar at Rosie in 2022, and 4 years later he has returned (yes, we missed him). A muso, graphic designer behind some of Perth’s coolest gig posters and music-loving individual – he is in the rose-coloured spotlight for May. Read on to see what he loves about Rosie, his survival go-tos and something you might not have guessed just by looking at him…

What do you enjoy most about working at Rosemount?

The people I work with are amazing so that’s a big positive! Plus having the opportunity to be around as much live music and performances as we do is great.

Tell us about your hobbies & interests outside of work that you’re passionate about!

I love making music and also spend a lot of my time graphic designing for Australian bands and businesses.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what’s the first thing you’d do there?

I’d really love to go back to Italy, somewhere like Positano or Florence, I’d definitely be eating.

Do you have a favourite Rosemount memory? Dish!

When I somehow got out of working NYE but spent it at the Rosemount anyway for Dr Noggin-Floggin 2021!

What kind of music do you enjoy, and are there any upcoming shows in Perth you’re excited to see?

All sorts! I love all kinds of psychedelic rock, 80s pop dad/yacht rock, britpop, something groovy or funky. I’m really keen to see Spit Enz in May!

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Paul McCartney, Neil Armstrong, my Nonno.

What’s the best concert or live performance you’ve ever been to?

It’d probably have to be between Turnstile at Redhill Auditorium or Elton John at NIB Stadium in 2019.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

A lighter, First Aid Kit, a cheese toastie maker.

And, finally, what’s something most people wouldn’t guess about you just by meeting you?

I have a massive soft spot for practical effects in movies and will always prefer a weird puppet or a model over CGI.

Look who we have here – it’s the woman behind all the raucous & wonderful live music at Rosemount Hotel for the last 5 years. Sinead has worked on and off at Rosemount for the better part of 10+ years, starting out in the bar in 2014, working as the marketing & communications manager for Cool Perth Nights from 2017, before taking over as Programming lead in 2021 – with a few non-Rosemount stints in between (all roads lead back to Rosie, right?). She runs her own business, BaseMgmt, on the side – dedicated to artist management, music content creation and more (how does she do it?!). Passionate and dedicated to Perth’s live music scene, we pinned her down for a quick interview as our Rosie Spotlight for April!

What do you enjoy most about working at Rosemount?

I love that I get to book some of my favourite bands! And that no day is the same – it’s fast paced, I love the people – the staff, regulars, community in general. It’s always a good vibe at Rosemount, that backyard has just got a special energy about it. I love working VIP Meet & Greets, because I just love seeing the joy on the VIP’s faces when they get to meet their idol’s. That’s really special.

Tell us about your hobbies & interests outside of work that you’re passionate about!

Ummm… music? Lol. Outside of Rosemount I also run my own business BaseMgmt Music, where I do artist management, video content, branding, mentorship & some ad hoc programming, producing & events work. I’m also pretty into Yoga these days. I need to go more often, but I’ve been going to Cntre Space down the road from the Rosie and it’s amazing. Calms the nervous system after a big week. Shout out to Tony at Cntre Space!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what’s the first thing you’d do there?

I want to go to Girona in Spain and find out more about my ancestors. I’ve been diving deep into ancestry.com lately and I’d love to go over there and see where they lived. Japan is also definitely on my list – I’d love to go to a little guest house out in the countryside somewhere and just stay there for a little while.

Do you have a favourite Rosemount memory? Dish!

There are too many to name! I have lots of great memories from when I worked in the bar back in 2014, the team was awesome. In terms of shows, The Drones at Rosemount in 2015 has stuck with me for a long time. It was on the old corner stage, and I’d never seen a live show as raw and real as that before.

What kind of music do you enjoy, and are there any upcoming shows in Perth you’re excited to see?

A real mix! I do love me some pop music – I can’t wait to see Lily Allen later this year at RAC Arena, I’m obsessed with her latest album.

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

David Byrne – The most incredible artist and thinker and I would pick his brain about his approach to live performance, his curiosity with soundscapes and culture informing music (his book How Music Works is amazing), his thoughts on American politics… he’s just the best.
Pedro Pascal – I just think he would be so much fun to hang out with, he’s hilarious and silly. I’d ask him about what it was like filming The Last of Us, his acting history, just have a few bevvies and some good yarns.
Billie Eilish – I’m just a little bit in love with her honestly. I feel like she would be super chill and fun. I’d ask about her songwriting process and how she copes with her level of fame. What a dream it would be!

What’s the best concert or live performance you’ve ever been to?

“Best” in terms of…? Production level or emotional connection? Ok I’m getting too granular here I’ll do one for both haha – I saw Lorde’s show at RAC Arena recently and was absolutely floored. It was so impressive production wise and having never been a massive Lorde fan I can now say I see what it’s all about – I totally get it. In terms of emotional connection, seeing Angel Olsen at Meredith Music Festival in 2016 made me ball my eyes out – she’s incredible and I’m a huge fan.

And, finally, what’s something most people wouldn’t guess about you just by meeting you?

Probably that I have ADHD. I was late diagnosed last year and have a lifetime of experience masking so I’ve been told I come across super chill and calm when inside my brain is going a million miles an hour. I’ve had people say “you don’t seem like you have ADHD” which is somewhat invalidating but I think that’s just because it’s so misunderstood still especially in how it presents in women.

Rosie Spotlight: A Chat to Shanaye

Say howdy to the newest member of the Rosemount management team – Shanaye! Shanaye has been at Rosemount for a little while now, rising from bartender to supervisor to manager in no time at all. You may have spotted her crafty handiwork on the beautiful chalkboard designs behind the Backyard Bar. Always dressed to the nines, she’s a creative force to be reckoned with, making colourful waves across Rosemount. Get to know her a little better in this month’s Rosie Spotlight.

What do you enjoy most about working at Rosemount?

The creative freedom. I am allowed to – and even encouraged to – trial different things all the time. You can be quite creative with the way you organise people, kind of like a Coach planning out a game of Football.

Tell us about your hobbies & interests outside of work that you’re passionate about!

Acanthus is my big boy cat that sometimes I take for walks on a leash!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what’s the first thing you’d do there?

I would go to China to see the funky technology they have over there, and to explore Bars and Clubs.

Do you have a favourite Rosemount memory? Dish!

I met my partner here October 2024. My first shift I remember telling all my friends about him – even though we hadn’t even spoken. Now, we live together with our big boy cat Acanthus. Shout out to Dio <3

What kind of music do you enjoy, and is there any upcoming shows in Perth you’re excited to see?

The Smyths (Smiths Tribute) are playing at the Rosie soon, so I’ve booked that day off to see them! The Irish nights we get here go off so hard – so I’ll try to sneak in for a couple of songs. I’ve been really into Cybercore music recently.

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Adam Sandler (in character), snoop Dogg and any English Queen. It would be a funny dynamic to watch – and we’d for sure get a good circle going.

What’s the best concert or live performance you’ve ever been to?

I went to a Cabaret show with my partner which was incredible. They made music with their genitals. At the end they threw pillows into the crowd for us to throw back – but tipsy me kept ditching them.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

A GIANT jug of Pino Colada – a monkey companion who also drinks the Pino Colada – and a big warm blanket. Me and the monkey would get black out drunk and do dumb things on the island like throwing coconuts at each other, and then pass out in a big comfy blanket.

And, finally, what’s something most people wouldn’t guess about you just by meeting you?

I thoroughly enjoy listening to bands like Mortician and – not so much these days – but I like casually wearing corpse paint and hanging out at creepy places.

Rosie Spotlight: A Chat to Beth

Meet Beth – a football fanatic, creative, music-loving member of the Rosie bar team! Currently studying a Bachelors of Biomedicine, Beth has been a gun behind the bar for over 2 years and can often be found in the Main Room boogying with her parents to brit pop & rock bands.

What do you enjoy most about working at Rosemount?

I’d love to say it’s the culture or the music, but really the people I work with make the place what it is. We’re a very tight knit bunch, great banter all the time whether it’s behind the bar pouring pints or out on the drink together.

Tell us about your hobbies & interests outside of work that you’re passionate about!

I am a very big football fan as my family are all from the UK & have been playing since I was little, which is probably my #1 love. I’m also very into my drawing and painting! And of course, as most of us at the Rosie are, I’m very into my music which makes this venue a stellar place to work.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what’s the first thing you’d do there?

I would love to visit Greece, as I missed getting to go there during my gap year in Europe. I would order a fat greasy gyros on touchdown.

Do you have a favourite Rosemount memory? Dish!

That’s a hard one, definitely have witnessed some pretty funny & memorable stuff in my time here. I’ll probably have to say it was the first New Years I ever worked because we got up to some crazy shenanigans behind the bar. Other than that I’d say as a punter I’ve been to some pretty great gigs with my family in the Main Room and they’ve all been very memorable.

What kind of music do you enjoy, and is there any upcoming shows in Perth you’re excited to see?

I listen to so much different music but my favourite genre would probably be brit rock / britpop / brit indie. Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, Joy Division etc. I’ve got no upcoming music shows that I’m currently lined up for but am super keen to get stuck into the fringe season with my parents!

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

1. Liam Gallagher because he’s just a funny guy

2. Roy Keane because he’s just footballing genius

3. I’ll bring my dad along because I think he’d enjoy that line up.

What’s the best concert or live performance you’ve ever been to?

Another hard one. I’ll maybe say The Stranglers, saw them in Manchester and Perth and they were equally great both shows.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

A giant bucket of popcorn chicken, a football and a really comfy blanket.

What’s something most people wouldn’t guess about you just by meeting you?

I’m currently studying a Bachelors of Biomedicine and looking to go into something in that field, but will always have a love for bartending and reckon I’ll still be doing the odd rockstar shift at the Rosemount once I’ve graduated!

What do you enjoy most about working at Rosemount?

The absolutely wonderful atmosphere the staff bring to the venue.

Tell us about your hobbies & interests outside of work that you’re passionate about!

Outside of work, I stay active through professional armwrestling, which I’ve trained and competed in for eight years, and regular training in the gym. I also enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, camping, and free diving, and I’m a big pooch lover.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what’s the first thing you’d do there?

Munich to get my Oktoberfest on!

Ned Kelly-Aussie legend, who wouldn’t wanna meet him

Brian Shaw – worlds strongest man, 6’9 400lb, super nice dude, would love to pick his mind for tips on how to get more massive😂

Leonardo DiCaprio – seems like a super chill dude.

What’s the best concert or live performance you’ve ever been to?

Tommy Emmanuel – arguably world’s best acoustic guitarist, blew my mindhole with what he could do with a guitar.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?

Swiss Army knife, Ferro rod & The lord of the rings books(any one of em if I’m not allowed 3).

What’s something most people wouldn’t guess about you just by meeting you?

I’m a massive nerd.
