Rosemount Hotel has had no shortage of talent pass through our doors – on stage & behind the bar. For September we’ve caught up with one of these talents who is a current familiar face – Tom Sloan. You might remember him from behind the counter in the bottleo or bar, or from a venue around Perth playing with his music collective, 4mg.
Hello Tom! Thank you for letting us get to know you a little better. Lets take it from the top… What do you do? And what your favourite part about it?
I guess to start, I’ve been working at the Rosie just shy of 2 years, doing a little bit of everything, from bar to the bottleo. I reckon it’s a great place to work if music is your thing, we always have awesome gigs on.
I also do a bit of administration support stuff and event work for my dad. Outside of event stuff, he runs a booking agency that deals with a bunch of cool clients. I’ve gotten the chance to see a lot of cool bands through my work and I’m super grateful to have the opportunity to learn a bit about the music biz from the old man.
Outside of work I spend most of my time producing music, jamming with mates or djing. I’m in a little music collective with my friends and It’s been super fun playing shows with them and seeing them all grow over the past couple years.
Love it! You’ve got lots on. Can you tell us what it is you love about being in Perth?
It’s such a great place for community!
It feels like a big web, where everyone knows everyone, especially in the music scene. I’ll see the same faces showing up to support each other at gigs across like every genre. I think that’s pretty cool, and pretty hard to find.
What’s the most memorable Rosemount Hotel event you’ve ever attended, and what made it stand out?
Such a hard question there’s been so many awesome nights. I’d probably have to go with when Five played. The synchronised boy band dancing had me going nuts like c’mon.
Oh yeah, FIVE had us grooving too. Now, we gotta know – If you could invite any three people, living or dead, to a party, who would they be and why?
Aphex Twin, Jimbo and Snoopdogg. Don’t think I need to elaborate.
That would be one hell of a party! What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?
Usually ill have a chat with my dear friend Mary, then do something along the lines of watching some One Piece and tending to my village on clash of clans.
Tell us a secret! What’s one thing about yourself that no one knows…
I honestly overshare a little too much and I legit can’t think of anything.
As a fellow oversharer, I can relate. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I Miss You by Blink182 of course
WHERE ARE YEEEWWW? An absolute classic. Tell us your hidden talent or a hobby that might surprise people?
I go through little periods where I get really into graphic, and 3D design. I like to make cool little environments like forests and stuff in 3D and make little loops of spinning glowing logos and stuff. HMU for your 3D needs!
Super cool! One last question – If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Despite the likely risks to my physical health, I’d probably have to go with butter chicken. I don’t care about the consequences, it’s a risk I’m willing to take. They will never take away my Butter Chook… I won’t let them.
